Year One: Through His Eyes

One year has passed, wow can you believe it? Wow, if this was a secular marriage, you would have left me months ago. For the first three months neither one of us had a job but every day you continue to look at me with love, at times we only had soup to eat, but always we had each other and our love for each other. Our faith in God kept us strong through the hard times. It seems this first year has been full of tough times, but somehow we have made it through.

I started school the first day we got back from our honeymoon; we were apart for 2 days a week for the first two and a half months, at one point even longer as I needed to do the research on campus. I remember the day you came to Henderson to see me, you loved me and missed me so much that you came to be with me to give me support and company. The first day of my fall semester, everything changed, I called you to tell you I had been in a car accident, and that paramedics were working on me. My phone then died. I couldn’t give you any more information and it broke my heart. I kept thinking about the dream you told me when I laid there in the hospital. Those were the longest two and a half hours of my life because I wanted you there and I wanted you next to me to hold me and tell me it will be ok.

The months that followed were very hard on the both of us; I would think you more than me at times. While I suffered from black-outs, headaches, memory loss, seizures and my fear; you were there to hold my hand, you were there to tell me it will be ok. I loved you more and more each passing day. Our joke that “I love you less than tomorrow” is true. I do love you more and more each day.

One year has passed, and I continue my schooling and as ever you are by my side cheering me on. At times, also the butt-kicker, the one who calms me down when I freak out, always out of love. As I look back on this year, it has indeed been the toughest, but our love for each other and our faith in God keeps us going. That and our witty sense of humor and sarcasm keep us laughing each day. We have been told more than once “to be a fly on our wall.” My wife as we celebrate this first year of marriage, let us look to the future and to the challenges it holds. Let us laugh at the troubles like we always do. Let us celebrate 70 more years together. I can only simply say, I love you, my darling, my wife, my soul-mate…My Angel Ashby.

Year One: Through Her Eyes

On May 23, 2009 I married my best friend. Little did I know that for the next 365 days my emotional state would be put to the most overwhelming feeling that it has ever felt before.

I am a big music fan. My entire life it has served as an outlet for me. I love how the words are put to music so gently to form a soothing sound to the ear. Recently, my favorite artist put out a song, and let me tell you.... It could not be more perfect to describe this past year of our marriage. I love you Daniel, and below are the lyrics. "Always and Forever..... Always....and....Forever"

Love takes the patience of Job
That's what my Mama always said
Faith is the belief in something more than what you know
That's what the Good Book says
You gotta play the cards you got
Who knows what fate is holding
At times you gotta go without knowing where you're going

That's why I keep on lovin' you
I keep on lovin' you
Through the baby don't leave mes
And never will agains
And I promise tos
I keep on lovin' you

Lord knows we've had our share of fights
Our sleepless nights, our ups and downs
We've had plenty and then some of baby I'm gones and turnarounds
Sometimes I swear it might be easier to throw in the towel
Someday we're gonna look back
Say look at us now

That's why I keep on lovin' you
I keep on lovin' you
Through the baby don't leave mes
And never will agains
And I promise tos
I keep on lovin' you

Keep on lovin' you
Through the I take it backs...I didn't mean it like thats
I'd never hurt yous...Oh, I keep on lovin' you

I keep on lovin' you...I keep on lovin' you
Through the I take it backs...I didn't mean it like that
I'd never hurt yous...Oh, I keep on lovin' you
I keep on lovin' you...I keep on lovin' you

What a boring month......

We welcome you 2010! We hope your stay here is better than last year.

January started off pretty well.

I am a huge Alabama Football fan, therefore, I was beyond excited when Alabama took the National Championship January 7th! ROOOOLLLLL TIIIIDDDDEEE ROOOLLLLL!

Daniel is doing so much better! He is still going strong with no seizures! YAY! He started preaching again this month, and that is one step to complete recovery. I will let him drive short distances around town but not long trips.

My crafty sister-in-law, Jessica, decided to get all of her aunts, cousins, sister, and mom together and do a Quilt-A-Long for the next six months. I am so thankful that they asked me to participate. However, I don't think they realize what they have gotten themselves into. They extent of my sewing is being able to sew a button on a shirt and/or coat. We are starting to sew the pieces together in Feb, so I will keep all of you posted.

Daniel and I moved into a bigger/newer/better/(insert adjective here) home. We know that all this is possible because of God. I have a great job. Daniel is doing exceptionally well in college, and we both have family members and friends that love us! Thank you so much God, we are gracious of your love!

GOODBYE 2009 HELLO 2010!!!!

So this year has been a ROUGH, ROUGH, ROUGH, year for the both of us!

(This blog will have January content in it! just warning ya! :D)

The month of December has been amazing!

  • We first started it with a couple of visitors from ALABAMA! My mom, sister, and a HUGE SURPRISE my brother, John, came up to visit Daniel and me for the weekend! It is always nice seeing people that you love, and that holds a special place in your heart! We took lots and lots of pictures (they will soon be uploaded I promise!).

  • Next, we took a little trip to Branson, MO. I have only been there a total of 3 times, but I have fallen in love with the place! We spent the weekend with my "fa-da and motha like-no-other," my two sweet sister-in-laws (Jess and Amber), and their significant others (Daniel and Jeremiah). I don't know what it is about the holiday's but I love it! Anyways, we all had a great weekend, and got to share crafting ideas! (If you have a chance check out Jessica's craft site! You can see my Christmas present on there! hehe http://sunnytuesday.blogspot.com).

  • Daniel and I actually got a weekend off before all of the CrAzInEsS of Christmas Day.

  • We spent Christmas in Alabama visiting my parents and my family. We got lots and lots of hugs which are far better than presents! However, Daniel may disagree with me! He recieved an AUTOGRAPH ARKANSAS JERSEY BY DARREN MCFADDEN from my mom and dad. He is STILL TALKING ABOUT IT!

  • Daniel and I started playing cards and board games right after Christmas and haven't stopped! That is probably why I haven't gotten online much or watched TV.

  • Daniel took his finals in his graduate classes and did quite well. We are still waiting on the final grade for one class.

  • Angel started a new position at the Jonesboro Human Development Center working in Quality Assurance! It is GREAT!

BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG UPDATE~!~

Daniel stopped taking his medication the week before we all went to Branson. He had a seizure/episode/(insert own word here) while we were in Branson. Well today, January 08, 2010 marks the 1 MONTH SEIZURE FREE!!! Amazing right! Thank you to everyone who has prayed for us and him over the past few months! We appreciate it and we know how loved we are! Thank you a milion times over! (For those of you who do not know, we think that his medication was causing his seizures. If you are placed on an anti-seizure medication and do not have a seizure disorder, it can actually cause seizures! F.Y.I. lol).

On New Year's Day, Linda, Joni, and myself went to St. Louis while Rick and Daniel went to Memphis (Our weekend first, then theirs):

  • We went up to St. Louis and visited with Linda's dad and family. I got to spend some time with my sister-in-law, Amber. It was really nice, because she is the only one that I hadn't spent a lot of time with before that weekend. We had a lot of fun! I am blessed to say I have two pretty amazing sister-in-laws (I think I have already said that once, so just get over it! hehehe). We had a great girls' weekend where we just did what girls do, chit-chat!
  • The Guys: The guys had a tournament in Memphis on the 2nd. After playing for probably 8 hours straight, Daniel and Rick TOOK FIRST PLACE! CONGRATS GUYS!

Thanks for visiting.... look for another blog later this weekend, for pictures, and as some call it "non-so-concrete resolutions"

  • ALABAMA WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!! HOW AMAZING!!

Peace and Quite

Welcome back! November for us has been, let's face it, a very boring month! :D Nothing too exciting happening.

Daniel has finished his second semester of Graduate School! We are so excited! That is one step closer to being completely out of school! YAY!

Daniel went to St. Louis with his dad for a tournament and he came home with the "Most Cans donated award" Congrats! The tournament fee was one can of food to give to the local shelters. So this is a BIG Honor!

Daniel's medical condition seems to be improving, and we are so thankful for that.

We had the first of many, many holiday meals this month starting with the Ashby Family Thanksgiving! I made mashed potatoes for the first time EVER! And I don't mean like powered, out of the box mashed potatoes. REAL POTATOES! They were amazing! I know this because I did not bring any home!

Daniel and I took a trip to St. Louis to visit the Paulus Family for Thanksgiving! We had such a great time visiting with them. We enjoyed seeing Linda's Father, whom we haven't seen since the wedding. (Well, at least I haven't, Daniel has!). Sweetest man you will probably ever meet!

While we were in St. Louis, we stayed with a childhood friend of mine and her husband. We went out to eat and caught up on life, and laughed.... A LOT! Sheena is a HUGE scrap booker, and I learned some pretty cool things from her. So I will be trying some of those things out!

After getting back from St. Louis, we started to get our Christmas stuff out! AMAZING! Even though we put the tree up in November, we will post pictures on the December post!

For the most part, November has been an extremely boring month! Which is nice for a change!

And if anyone is wondering..... I DID NOT GO OUT ON BLACK FRIDAY!

Oh Snap... Almost forgot: Alabama beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

Until next time,

Daniel and Angel
